What is Aerial Yoga & What will you learn?

Aerial Yoga is a distinctive practice that integrates traditional yoga postures with the use of a hammock suspended from the ceiling. In this discussion, we’ll delve into the history of Aerial Yoga, tracing its development and the various influences that have shaped it over time.

We’ll explore what differentiates Aerial Yoga: its elegant combination of yoga, acrobatics, and aerial arts, which imparts a unique sensation of weightlessness and freedom. Together, we’ll discover the numerous benefits, including enhanced flexibility, strength, and spinal alignment, while also addressing contraindications for specific health conditions.

In Aerial Yoga, the hammock becomes our teacher, guiding us into our feminine movements and supporting us with correct body alignment and adjustments. Though it has acrobatic roots in circus arts, Aerial Yoga stays true to its yoga principles. We practice four levels in Aerial Yoga: half tibia, knee, under glutes, and hip level.

Before we start to “fly,” we must learn to use the hammock, establish a connection with it, and feel the fabric on our bodies. Just as we learn to crawl before we run, we prepare our bodies for more advanced movements.

Getting used to inversions and overcoming fear is essential. Believe me, fear often overshadows the discomfort we might feel in our groins while flying. Learning to control the hammock before attempting more complex movements allows us to fully enjoy the practice, without the fear of falling.

strength and stability.

Inversions in aerial yoga encourage blood circulation and
lymphatic drainage, promoting overall circulation and detoxification.

Is it safe to do aerial yoga at home? 

Aerial yoga at home can be safe if you have proper equipment, knowledge, and experience. Ensure strong ceiling anchors, high-quality hammocks, and follow precise instructions. Novices should begin with a certified instructor to learn proper techniques and safety measures
